I come from a family of teachers–my grandparents in Armenia were English language professors and my mother was a university professor of Russian Literature.

At the age of 11, I emigrated from Armenia, which was part of the Soviet Union, to Los Angeles, California. I did not speak English and was placed in ESL courses where the teachers set very low expectations for students. In Armenia, I had been one of the top students in my class, but in the U.S., I was sad to be placed in low-level ESL level courses.

However, I was determined to “be the best” and focused on improving my English as fast as possible in order to go to my “dream” college–the University of California, Los Angeles. I was so determined to master the English language that I ended up becoming an English teacher!

Since 2002, I have taught English for Academic Purposes to high school, undergraduate, and graduate university students in the United States, Brazil, Turkey, Kazakhstan, and the United Arab Emirates. Having myself made the challenging transition from non-native to native speaker of English, I enjoy helping students of diverse ages and backgrounds reach their professional and academic goals by improving their writing skills.

I also have extensive experience editing and proofreading doctoral and masters theses in fields of education, psychology, sociology, history, sciences, and engineering using diverse citations formats such as APA, MLA, IEEE, and others.
